Leeuwarden is the major city of Friesland.  The Jacobijnekerk or Grote  Kerk (Big Church), shown above, lies near the Fries Museum, the museum of Frisian history:

The museum is especially worth visiting for anyone of Frisian ancestry.  Gerrit Jacobs, brother of the oldest known Brolsma, was married in 1650 in Leeuwarden.  The famous writer Reinder Brolsma (1882 - 1953) attended technical school there.  Around 1900, there were 10 Brolsmas living in Leeuwarden. More recently, Geertje Brolsma (1909 - 1992) was a postal worker in Leeuwarden.
