Piet and Tineke Brolsma: Royal Warrant holders

The Brolsma butcher's shop in Stiens has been appointed to hofleverancier, Royal Warrant holder. The Royal decree was signed on 26 October 2000 by the Queen's Grand Master. In a ceremony at the town hall in Stiens on the 14th of November, the birth day of founder Jan Roelofs, the charter was presented to Piet Brolsma by mayor Vroegindeweij of Leeuwarderadeel.

The shop has its own Website with special offers, suggestions for recipes, and so on.   You can find them at http://www.brolsma.keurslager.nl.

The butcher's shop was started by Jan Roelofs Brolsma (biography 39 in the Brolsma book) in 1898. The act of the purchase was found in the Municipal Archives of Leeuwarderadeel. Four generations have worked in the shop, which has been in the same location all this time. In the early days, the orders were delivered by bicycle to the farms around Stiens. One of these bicycles is now displayed in front of the shop. The shop has been enlarged and refurnished several times.

To be considered for the designation Royal Warrant holder, the shop must exist for over 100 years at the same location and in the hands of the same family. The products of a shop must be of outstanding quality, the owner must be of blameless conduct, and auditors must approve the financial reports. The whole procedure took 1½ years. There are only 270 other Royal Warrant holders in the Netherlands. The shop of Piet and Tineke Brolsma is certainly the first in the village of Stiens.

Steins is near many other ancestral Brolsma locations ...
